Our verdict on Spotlightr (formerly VooPlayer)
Spotlightr, formerly VooPlayer, is a hosted video hosting and player platform for course creators, membership sites, marketers, and website owners. It combines branded embeds and watch pages with HLS encryption, hybrid hosting from external video sources, analytics, lead-capture forms, and call-to-action overlays. Its course and gallery modules also support structured learning content and video collections, while Stripe integration enables pay-per-view video galleries. Web embedding and REST and JavaScript API capabilities make it suitable for websites and custom applications.
The platform’s strongest fit is lead generation and controlled video access. Email gates, private links, password protection, IP watermarking, and geographic controls support different audience and privacy requirements. Video analytics include heatmaps, while Premium adds advanced analytics and reporting, CRM tags, in-video quizzes, and GeoControl. Integrations with WordPress, LearnDash, Zapier, Stripe, YouTube, Amazon S3, and Dropbox extend its fit across websites, learning systems, automation, payments, and external media sources.
Its plan structure moves from core hosting to learning, reporting, and team capacity. Light includes HLS encryption, a customizable player, heatmaps, and WordPress and LearnDash integration. Plus adds course and gallery modules, student and audience reporting, and password protection. Premium adds quizzes, advanced reporting, CRM tags, and GeoControl. Scale includes Premium features plus 20 team accounts, 6,000 GB of monthly bandwidth, and 2,000 GB of storage. Spotlightr is a strong choice for marketers and educators who need branded, gated, measurable video; those seeking a free or open-source platform should look elsewhere.
