Our verdict on Speckle

Speckle is a design-data collaboration platform for architecture, engineering, construction, and owner teams. It connects CAD and BIM applications, publishes versioned model data, and provides browser-based 3D viewing, sharing, review, analytics, validation, and automation. Its multi-discipline coverage, IFC support, cloud collaboration, and viewer access make it a fit for OpenBIM coordination teams and developers managing information across several tools rather than authoring every model in one application.

The free Explore plan provides one project, up to three users, all file importers and connectors, one project dashboard, 30-day version history, and community support. Custom Plans add up to unlimited projects and users, CDE integrations, Speckle Automate, full version history, SSO, and enterprise security. The published plan structure makes Speckle accessible for a small coordination workspace, while larger deployments need a custom commercial conversation. The platform connects with IFC, Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Autodesk Forma, Power BI, Rhino, SketchUp, Navisworks, Grasshopper, Blender, Archicad, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, ETABS, and Tekla.

Its main strength is breadth around shared model data: version comparison, IFC analytics, validation and compliance checks, clash-check automation, material quantity extraction, issues, markups, presentations, dashboards, Speckle Intelligence, and API or SDK-based workflows. Teams can work through web, Windows, macOS, Linux, API, or self-hosted deployments, with open-source self-hosting available. Speckle should suit teams that need a coordination and automation layer across mixed AEC software. Teams seeking a primary BIM authoring environment, or a larger hosted setup without custom pricing, should consider alternatives focused on those needs.
