Smile API review
A developer-focused API with instant multinational verification and sandbox access.

Smile API provides user-authorized identity, employment and income data through a REST API. It is designed for banks, fintech companies, recruitment agencies, lenders and other service providers that need verification data in JSON. Employment records can include the employer, job title, employment status, start date and end date. The platform supports instant verification across multinational sources, making it a focused option for developers building onboarding, lending, rental verification, background-check or employment-screening workflows.
Its strongest fit is an API-first integration model. Developers can use the Wink JavaScript widget for user-permissioned account linking, then retrieve employment and income data through a single REST API. The Archive API accepts payslip and company-ID uploads, while document processing extracts information from employment and income documents. Webhooks cover employment-data and task-completion events, which can help applications respond to verification progress without relying only on repeated status checks.
Smile API also separates testing from live operation with a Sandbox environment containing test data and a production mode for live data. The free access described applies to the Sandbox environment, while production access and account-based billing require contacting Smile. That makes it suitable for teams evaluating integration flows or building around a developer API before moving to live verification. Organizations wanting permissioned, multinational employment and income checks should consider it; teams seeking transparent production pricing or a single, uniform data source may prefer an alternative.
