SMHI Väder review
A free Android forecast app with Nordic focus, global locations and Swedish alerts.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
SMHI Väder is a free Android weather app from Sweden’s meteorological and hydrological institute. It is aimed at people who want forecasts tuned to Swedish and Nordic conditions, while also checking weather for locations around the world. Forecasts extend 10 days ahead, and the app provides access to SMHI warnings and messages when severe weather threatens in Sweden. Its ad-free use is a clear draw for people who prefer a straightforward forecast without advertising.
The app’s most distinctive value is its combination of regional focus and broad location coverage. Swedish and Nordic forecasts are central, but the ability to look up worldwide locations makes it useful beyond local planning. The 10-day forecast horizon supports looking ahead, while the Swedish warning feed adds timely regional safety information. That alert coverage is specifically tied to severe weather in Sweden, so travelers elsewhere should not treat the app as a source of local warnings for every country.
There is no paid tier to weigh: SMHI Väder is free to use, and the published app description says it is ad-free. That makes it a sensible pick for Android users who want basic forecasts and Swedish alerts without advertising or a subscription decision. Its stated feature set remains focused on general weather forecasting, rather than a wider set of specialist tools. Choose it for ad-free Nordic and global forecasts, especially if Swedish severe-weather messages matter; look elsewhere if you need alerts tailored to other countries or a broader weather feature set.
