SeedMapper review
A seed map without leaving the game: explorable map, HUD minimap and commands to locate biomes, loot and ores.

SeedMapper brings the seed map into Minecraft Java Edition itself. It is a client-side Fabric mod, free and open source under the LGPL, distributed through Modrinth with builds for Minecraft 1.16.5 through 26.3. After the seed is set with a config command, one command opens an explorable map with feature toggles, and another pins a minimap to the heads-up display that can rotate with the player and follows you between dimensions. The project is busy: three releases shipped between 6 and 17 September 2026, and the author asks users to always run the newest stable version.
The command set goes well beyond a map. Locate commands find the nearest biome in any dimension, any structure with filters for pieces and variants such as end cities that come with a ship, the closest copper or iron ore vein, and chest loot matching an item and its enchantments in versions from 1.13 onward. Highlight commands outline chosen ore blocks or whole ore veins in the world around you. Because everything happens in the client, there is no switching between a browser tab and the game while exploring, and the minimap turns seed data into something you can glance at while walking.
The power comes with conditions. SeedMapper needs the world seed, and on a server that usually means asking the owner or cracking it with another mod the author points to, which many servers treat as cheating, so check the rules first. It is Java-only, requires Fabric and Fabric API, and Minecraft 1.21.11 and older need Java 23 or newer configured in the launcher, a step the author documents for each popular launcher. Coal, copper and emerald ore positions can be off, and desert pyramids, jungle temples and mansions may show false positives. For solo worlds and servers that allow it, few tools answer where the nearest structure is faster.
