Schauboard is free, open-source digital signage software for restaurants, hotels, shops, offices, schools, and gyms. It is designed for solo users and small teams that want to manage signage on their own infrastructure rather than subscribe to a cloud service. The Free plan is released under the Apache 2.0 license, has no license fees or cloud subscription, and has no stated screen limit. Deployment can run on a PHP-enabled web server, NAS, Raspberry Pi, or shared hosting, without a database or Docker.
Its strongest area is content control. The browser-based block editor includes fifteen content modules, covering text, headings, clocks, images, slideshows, weather, RSS or Atom feeds, tickers, tables, shapes, web pages, QR codes, countdowns, HTML/CSS animation, and video. Playlists can use time-of-day and weekday scheduling, while slides can have valid-from and valid-until dates. Multiple displays receive separate URLs and show online status. Templates, slide import and export, full installation backup and restore, live reload after content changes, password-protected administration, and one-click updates with package verification and rollback add practical operating controls.
Schauboard fits teams that value ownership, straightforward display management, and flexible scheduling over a large software ecosystem. Offline playback is supported, although QR blocks require connectivity, and weather and RSS content require server-side connectivity. The platform also lists API access and browser-extension deployment, but it has no user roles and no AI features. Support is available through email, community resources, and documentation. Choose Schauboard when free self-hosting and core signage features are the priority; organizations needing differentiated permissions, broader deployment coverage, or stronger enterprise-oriented administration should consider another option.
