Scaleway Instance Groups review
A focused autoscaler for Scaleway VM groups, with CPU and RAM targets and load-balancer updates.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Scaleway Instance Groups organize identical cloud Instances from a reusable template and can adjust group size in autoscaling mode. They suit teams already running virtual machines on Scaleway that want capacity to respond to CPU or RAM usage without managing each Instance count manually. Groups can scale in or out within configured minimum and maximum limits, making the service relevant across small, mid-market, and enterprise environments that use this cloud platform.
The controls cover several practical parts of scaling behavior: operators can choose how many Instances to add or remove per event and set a cooldown between events. An attached Scaleway Load Balancer can be updated as group membership changes, and an optional setting replaces Instances that fail its health checks. Group status, member Instances, logs, and scaling activity are available for monitoring. The design is specifically for Scaleway-hosted Instances rather than containers or clusters, so teams seeking cross-cloud scaling or container orchestration should look elsewhere.
Instance Groups are currently in public beta. They integrate with Scaleway Load Balancer and Scaleway Cockpit, and are available through web and API interfaces. According to the published product notes, Instance compute is billed pay-as-you-go; Instance Groups themselves are described as paid, but no separate feature price is specified. Support channels include tickets, community, and documentation. Choose this service if your workload already runs on Scaleway and CPU- or RAM-based VM scaling fits; consider an alternative if you need broader trigger types or a platform-neutral approach.
