Our verdict on Saily
Saily sells prepaid eSIM data plans for travelers in Japan, with fixed-data packages and an unlimited option. The plans suit visitors who want mobile data without choosing a local physical SIM, as well as travelers interested in security tools bundled with connectivity. Japan packages range from 1 GB through 20 GB to unlimited; the 1 GB option is valid for 7 days and is listed at US$3.99. The separately stated unlimited offer is US$48.99 for 15 days. Plans are prepaid rather than monthly subscriptions.
The practical feature set centers on getting connected and managing usage. Buyers can install the eSIM through the Saily app or a QR code after a website purchase, enable data roaming, and have the plan activate automatically on arrival at the destination. Hotspot sharing is supported, and top-ups are available in the app, with an optional auto top-up. Connectivity uses 4G/LTE and 5G where available. For travelers moving beyond Japan, Saily offers plans for more than 200 destinations, including regional and global options; the service is available on iOS and Android as well as the web.
Saily’s security tools may appeal to travelers who want virtual location, ad blocking, and protection against malicious sites and trackers alongside their data plan. The main trade-off is the unlimited package’s fair-use behavior: it provides 5 GB per day at full speed, then speeds of up to 1 Mbps. Buyers should compare the fixed data allowances and validity for their trip rather than treating every package as equivalent. Choose Saily if destination-specific prepaid data, hotspot use, and those security features align with your needs; look elsewhere if you need unlimited full-speed data throughout the day.
