RustyN64 is an open-source Nintendo 64 emulator written in pure Rust for technical users who prioritize hardware accuracy and modern graphics options. It supports Linux x64, macOS ARM64, Windows x64, and a WebAssembly browser demo. The project combines a native desktop frontend with cartridge and save support, ROM format detection for .z64, .n64, and .v64 files, configurable controller mapping, and USB gamepad support. It is available as free open-source software.

Its standout strength is the depth of its emulation approach. RustyN64 uses cycle-accurate 187.5 MHz master-clock scheduling, low-level RSP emulation with scalar and vector units, low-level RDP rasterization, VI scan-out, and AI audio and sample DMA emulation. The graphics stack includes Vulkan, Metal, and DX12 renderers, while save states, rewind, and run-ahead add flexibility for individual play sessions. The WebAssembly demo extends access through a browser using a 2D canvas, although the main feature set is centered on native desktop builds.

RustyN64 is a strong fit for users who value emulator architecture, accuracy-focused development, and modern renderer APIs over broad game coverage today. Its main limitation is incomplete commercial-game compatibility, even though rendering results are documented for some titles. Netplay is not supported, so multiplayer use is limited to its controller features rather than online play. Choose RustyN64 for technical experimentation and accuracy-oriented emulation; choose an alternative if established compatibility breadth or netplay is the primary requirement.
