rust-wasm-snes is an open-source Super Nintendo emulator written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly. It runs in a web browser without a desktop runtime and includes a live browser demo. The project is aimed at browser users who want a focused technical SNES core, especially developers and emulation enthusiasts interested in CPU, audio, rendering, input, and diagnostic behavior rather than a broad, finished game library.

Its strongest technical area is the emulation core. The published feature set includes cycle-accurate 65C816 CPU emulation, SPC700 and S-DSP audio emulation with BRR decoding, keyboard joypad input through automatic-read and serial protocols, and full emulator save-state serialization and restoration. Execution tracing for CPU and APU debugging adds useful visibility for development work. Together, these features make the project more than a basic browser demo, although the emphasis is clearly on focused implementation and diagnosis.

Rendering and compatibility define the main trade-offs. PPU support covers modes 0, 1, and 3, plus partial mode 7 support, so visual coverage is not complete. The project description says several games boot or play, while others require additional hardware or mapper support; compatibility is experimental and incomplete. There are also no verified enhancements or multiplayer capabilities. Choose rust-wasm-snes if browser delivery, open-source code, cycle-level CPU work, audio emulation, save states, and tracing matter most. Choose an alternative if you need broad game compatibility, complete PPU coverage, desktop platforms, or multiplayer.
