Romulus is a free Windows desktop utility for organizing and validating game ROM collections against DAT profiles. It is aimed at people maintaining legacy collections who need to compare files with catalog data, repair incomplete sets or prepare organized files for configured emulators. The focus is collection management rather than general-purpose game library browsing: scanning, checksum verification and rebuilding are central to its workflow.

Its file-management capabilities are notably broad for that focused job. Romulus imports ClrMame Pro, RomCenter, OfflineList, MESS and MAME-based DAT data, then checks directory contents against profile filenames, sizes and checksums. CRC32, MD5 and SHA1 validation are supported. Rebuild operations can find missing files in other folders, and the application handles ZIP, RAR and 7z archives. Users can choose split, split/merged, split/not-merged or non-split modes, run batch scans and rebuilds, and create XML DAT files from hashed folders. These options make it a fit for catalog-driven maintenance; users looking for a simpler front end focused mainly on browsing games may prefer a narrower workflow.

Romulus is freeware, with no paid tiers described, and the vendor lists it as a downloadable Windows desktop application. It can export profile lists and reports as HTML, DOC or TXT and configure up to 10 emulators for launching games. The project lists a version 0.049 update from December 2020 and describes Linux and macOS compatibility through WINE rather than native builds. Windows users who value detailed DAT-based repair tools may find the scope appropriate; those requiring a native Linux or macOS application should look elsewhere. Email and documentation are listed as support channels.
