Roblox Text-to-Speech API review
A focused Roblox API for gameplay speech, with positional audio and usage-based pricing.

Roblox Text-to-Speech API converts text strings into artificial speech at runtime inside Roblox experiences. It is designed for Roblox developers adding narration, UI prompts, accessibility features, NPC dialogue, directional cues, or context-aware gameplay feedback. The AudioTextToSpeech engine object works within Roblox Studio and can route speech through Roblox audio objects for either 2D or 3D playback. Preset artificial voices and script-triggered playback make it suited to in-game speech rather than general-purpose voice production.
Pricing is usage-based rather than organized around a conventional subscription. The published Extended plan costs $5 per 1M requests and provides extended text-to-speech request capacity. There is no free plan. Each request has a 300-character limit, so longer dialogue may need to be divided into multiple requests. The API also includes SSML controls, along with pitch, speed, playback-speed, volume, and looping controls. These options give developers practical control over how speech behaves during gameplay without changing the product’s narrow Roblox focus.
Its strongest distinction is gameplay integration. Developers can trigger speech from scripts, use AudioDeviceOutput for 2D playback, or combine AudioEmitter and AudioListener for 3D positional audio. That supports speech that can respond to player context, interface events, or the location of an in-game sound. The trade-off is platform scope: this is a Roblox Engine API class, not a standalone external web API or a broad game-engine voice platform. Choose it when Roblox-native runtime speech and spatial playback are priorities. Choose another option when you need cross-engine deployment, general voice production, or a service outside Roblox Studio.
