Our verdict on Rive
Rive brings vector design, timeline animation, state machines, responsive layouts, and data binding into one workspace. It is aimed at designers, animators, and developers creating interactive graphics for websites, mobile applications, games, and other products. Skeletal animation, animation mixing, reusable components, collaboration, asset libraries, and cloud rendering extend the workflow beyond a conventional animation timeline. Integrations include Framer, Webflow, Wix Studio, Unity, Unreal, Defold, Flutter, React, and React Native, with runtimes available across web, desktop, mobile, and game-engine environments.
The published plans show a freemium structure. Free includes 3 collaborative files and Agent with limits. Cadet costs $9 per seat per month when billed annually and adds unlimited files and .riv export, with a maximum of 3 seats. Voyager costs $32 per seat per month when billed annually and adds libraries, embed URL hosting, Agent with advanced models, and a maximum of 25 seats. Enterprise costs $120 per seat per month when billed annually and adds subteam workspaces, a custom S3 bucket, organization-wide permissions, a custom runtime, SSO, and SOC2 Type II.
Rive is a strong fit when animation needs to respond to application or game logic rather than remain a fixed video. Lottie JSON import and export options including RIV, H.264, GIF, PNG Sequence, SVG Sequence, WebM, PNG, and SVG support different delivery needs, while open-source runtimes help connect authored work to products. Its focus is narrower than a general-purpose motion graphics tool, and the Free and Cadet plans place limits on files or seats. Choose Rive for interactive vector experiences and runtime integration; consider another category if the primary need is broad, standalone motion graphics production.
