RetailPOS review
A broad, self-hosted retail POS for technical teams that need offline checkout.

RetailPOS is a free, open-source point-of-sale system for physical retailers that want control over deployment and store operations. It runs on web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and can also operate in a self-hosted or offline standalone setup. Its feature set covers product catalogs and variants, inventory adjustments, barcode scanning, checkout, returns, refunds, reporting, audit trails, and role-based access. Technical retail teams are the clearest fit, especially when offline operation and deployment flexibility matter.
According to the vendor’s published plan information, RetailPOS is free and open source with no monthly fees. There are no paid tiers described, so the product’s value is centered on its included functionality rather than plan-based upgrades. Ecommerce connectivity is broad: supported platforms include Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, Sylius, Wix, PrestaShop, and Squarespace. Retailers can synchronize products, inventory, customers, discounts, gift cards, and orders, while Stripe, Square, and Worldpay are listed for payment connectivity.
Offline checkout is a standout capability. RetailPOS stores transactions locally with SQLite and performs background synchronization when connectivity returns, which suits stores that need checkout continuity. It also supports camera, Bluetooth, and USB barcode scanners, receipt printing, cash drawers, payment terminals, and local-network multi-register server and client mode. The tradeoff is operational: self-hosting and third-party hardware require technical ownership. RetailPOS should suit technical users seeking a flexible open-source POS, while retailers wanting a managed service or more narrowly defined staff workflows may prefer another approach.
