A web-focused text-to-speech service with broad integration options and a free plan.

ResponsiveVoice provides text-to-speech for websites, web applications, mobile applications, and server workflows. Its browser SDK, REST API, WordPress plugin, and Web Player support publishers, developers, agencies, and organizations adding spoken content to digital products. The service includes 100+ voices across 50+ languages, article playback with paragraph highlighting, playback controls, and native browser voice fallback to API-generated audio. It supports web, iOS, Android, and API workflows.
The Free plan costs $0 per month and includes commercial use, Web Player, plugin, JavaScript, API access, one website, and 1 million characters per month. Starter costs $9 per month and adds branding removal, full player controls, custom colors, one website, and two API secrets. Pro costs $49 per month for up to 10 websites, provider choice, bring-your-own-key support, usage reports by site, priority support, and higher rate limits. Business costs $149 per month for up to 50 websites, team controls, onboarding and setup help, the highest rate limits, and an SLA option. Annual billing is available for the paid plans.
For implementation, ResponsiveVoice covers both client-side and server-side needs through its Browser SDK, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and REST API options. HTTP and WebSocket streaming support real-time delivery, while voice selection can use a name, pattern, or structured query. The API lists MP3, OGG, and WAV response formats, but the article-reading use case does not generate downloadable MP3 files. Choose ResponsiveVoice for web publishing and embedded playback across multiple sites; consider another service if voice cloning is essential or downloadable article audio is a central requirement.
