Resonant review
A free Windows workstation combining local generation with songwriting and production tools.

Resonant is a free, open-source Windows music studio for producers who want local AI generation alongside conventional production tools. It combines optional ACE-Step 1.5 generation for vocal songs or instrumentals with a songwriter workspace covering lyrics, structure, rhyme, and revision guidance. The app also includes clip launching, an arrangement timeline, instrument sampling, audio recording, imported-audio workflows, mixing, singing-voice conversion, and stereo WAV export. Commercial use is supported, and the application runs locally without an account, subscription, or required cloud service.
Its strongest fit is breadth within a single desktop workstation. Producers can move from songwriting to arrangement, sampling, recording, mixing, and export without switching between separate product categories. The mixer includes level, pan, delay, mute, solo, automation, and limiting controls, while atomic saves and explicit autosave recovery address project continuity. Voice conversion is consent-based and uses optional Seed-VC, keeping that capability alongside the rest of the local workflow rather than presenting it as a separate service.
Resonant also fits an assistant-driven ecosystem through its MCP server, with compatibility for Codex, Claude, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible assistants. That integration adds a control layer for users who want AI assistance inside the workstation. The tradeoff is platform and hardware scope: published builds target Windows, while AI generation and voice conversion rely on optional local providers and suitable hardware. Choose Resonant if you want an open, local Windows workstation with broad songwriting and production coverage. Choose another tool if you need macOS or Linux support or prefer cloud-hosted generation.
