Our verdict on RapidComposer
RapidComposer is desktop music composition software for composers, songwriters, and musicians who build music through MIDI, phrases, chords, scales, rhythms, melodies, and motifs. Its non-destructive, phrase-based workflow supports chord progression editing and generation, melody generation, auto-harmonization, guitar chord fingering, editable tablature, MIDI recording, and live composition triggering from a MIDI keyboard. It runs on Windows and macOS, with standalone, VST3, and AU versions in the Light Edition. For advanced MIDI composers, it offers a deeper composition toolkit than a lyric-centered songwriting workspace.
The published plans show two paid, one-time options. The Light Edition costs $79 and includes core composition functionality, the AI assistant, 40,000+ reusable phrases, product support, and updates until v6.99. It also supports standalone, VST3, and AU use on Windows and macOS. The $199 Full Edition includes the Light Edition features plus melody generators, the Idea Tool, Melody Editor, Percussion Generator, and MIDI Transformer. A 30-day free trial is available, but there is no free plan. The tier choice is straightforward: Light covers the core phrase and chord workflow, while Full adds more dedicated tools for melody, arrangement, and performance.
