PredictWind review
A marine-focused forecast and routing app, with core weather tools free and advanced planning paid.

PredictWind is a marine weather app for Android, iOS and the web, aimed at sailors, powerboaters and others planning time on the water. It brings together forecasts from multiple weather models in maps, tables and graphs, alongside wind and wave information, a daily briefing, local destination information and GPS tracking. The free plan includes 11 forecast models and a GRIB Viewer, making it useful for comparing conditions without paying. Its specialized marine focus is the point: people looking for a straightforward everyday forecast may find the route and ocean tools unnecessary.
The plans step up from forecast access to route planning. Free costs nothing and includes wind, wave and other weather information, Local Knowledge, Daily Briefing and GPS tracking. Basic costs $29 per year and adds lightning, 1km-resolution wind maps, observations and webcams, extreme weather warnings, rain radar and satellite imagery. Standard costs $249 per year and adds weather routing, departure planning, sea temperature and high-resolution tidal currents. Professional costs $499 per year, adding ocean and tidal currents, high-resolution routing and departure planning, AI Polars and boat motion data. A 7-day free trial is available. The substantial jump to Standard is important for buyers whose main reason to subscribe is routing.
The strongest case for PredictWind is the combination of model comparison with marine-specific planning: route and departure tools, tidal-current information and GPS tracking serve decisions that general weather apps do not address. Forecast alerts may be triggered after forecast updates, potentially every 12 hours, so they should not be treated as continuously refreshed warnings. PredictWind fits sailors who will use marine forecasts and route planning, especially those prepared to pay for Standard or Professional. For casual weather checks, or for someone who does not need marine data, the free tier or a general-purpose weather app is a more proportionate choice.
