PoseStudio review
A free Windows tool for posing rigged 3D figures and assembling scenes.

PoseStudio is a free, open-source desktop application for creating and posing 3D characters and assembling scenes. It is aimed at 3D artists, content creators, and developers who need a Windows-based workspace for working with rigged, morphable figures. Its core workflow combines interactive posing, scene assembly, viewport display modes, lighting controls, and pose management rather than presenting a complete production pipeline.
The strongest part of PoseStudio is its posing and viewport feature set. Full-body inverse kinematics supports interactive character posing, while anatomical joint limits and joint pinning provide additional control. The Vulkan-powered 3D viewport includes PBR shading and multiple display modes. HDRI environment lighting adds exposure, key-light, shadow, and backdrop controls. Users can also import rigged figures and Wavefront OBJ files with materials and textures, then organize assets through folders, collections, favorites, thumbnails, and search. Pose save/load and unified undo/redo round out the day-to-day workflow.
PoseStudio’s free, open-source model makes it a practical option for Windows users who want character posing and scene composition without a paid plan. Current downloadable builds target 64-bit Windows 10/11, while macOS and Linux builds are planned. The project is in early development, and animation, rendering, and export capabilities remain under development. That makes PoseStudio a better fit for artists, creators, and developers focused on posing, reference, and scene setup than for teams seeking a finished game-asset production pipeline. Choose it for free Windows-based figure posing and organized scene work; consider an alternative if confirmed cross-platform support or mature animation, rendering, and export workflows are central requirements.
