Our verdict on Podium

Podium is a Windows digital audio workstation from Zynewave for recording, editing, arranging, and mixing audio and MIDI. It suits musicians, producers, and creators who want a lightweight Windows application with core DAW functions, flexible routing, MIDI editing, automation, and plug-in hosting. Podium Free provides a freeware entry point, while the commercial edition expands the product beyond that free offering.

The pricing structure is straightforward. Podium Free is available as a separate freeware edition with limitations compared with the commercial version. The Single-User Software License costs US$50 as a one-time payment and includes a free upgrade period plus a licensed Tone2 Warmverb VST plug-in. The published commercial plan also supports the same central workflow areas: audio and MIDI recording and editing, piano-roll and drum-map MIDI editors, automation curve editing, real-time and offline bouncing, multichannel audio, and mixer buses.

Podium’s strongest fit is a focused Windows recording setup that relies on established audio and MIDI connections. It supports VST 2.4 instrument and effect plug-ins, ReWire, ASIO audio drivers, MIDI devices, and external audio hardware. Its hierarchical track routing and sub-mixing provide useful depth for arranging signal flow, while support for up to 32-channel wave and AIFF audio and up to 100 mixer bus instances gives the mixer room to scale within the stated limits. The trade-off is a narrow platform and feature scope: VST3, video, and audio time stretching are not part of the stated support. Choose Podium for cost-conscious Windows recording and mixing; choose an alternative if cross-platform work, VST3 plug-ins, or time-stretching is central to your workflow.
