Plakat is a local, open-source creative studio for generating, editing, compositing, and animating images. It is aimed at creators who want generative poster artwork, image conditioning, and structured authoring rather than a conventional template-based poster editor. The software runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux through a command-line interface and terminal UI, with a scripting language and library API for more programmatic workflows. It is distributed under the Unlicense and runs locally without external services.
Its strongest fit is generative image creation. Plakat supports text-to-image generation across multiple model families, image-to-image transformation, inpainting, outpainting, portrait generation with reference-photo guidance, and prompt-morph animation between two prompts. ControlNet conditioning can guide depth, edges, pose, and line art, while LoRA, style, wildcard, and prompt-enhancement support provide additional control over the visual process. These capabilities make it suitable for building distinctive poster imagery and iterating on composition, but they do not replace the layout conventions of a dedicated poster design application.
For print-oriented work, Plakat includes structured book-art rendering with exact page sizing and DPI metadata, plus custom sizing and print-ready export.
