Our verdict on PikuMail

PikuMail is a free Windows desktop email client for people managing multiple Gmail, iCloud, mail.com, and other IMAP accounts. Its local-first design keeps email, contacts, folders, calendar data, notes, and settings on the user's device instead of on PikuMail servers. Alongside core email features, it includes a calendar, local contacts, notes with alarms, backup and restore, and support for multiple accounts. It is best suited to Windows users who value local data control and want email tools in one desktop application.

According to the vendor's product description, PikuMail is distributed as donationware, with donations optional and all features available to users. The security feature set includes on-device database encryption and PGP message encryption and signing. These capabilities give privacy-conscious users specific controls over stored data and message protection. Full-text search across folders and server history adds practical value for users managing substantial mail archives, while the rich composer supports formatting, attachments, spell-check, and dictation.

PikuMail connects with Gmail, iCloud, mail.com, IMAP, SMTP, and Dropbox. Dropbox support is available for large attachments, while the built-in calendar supports ICS import and export. The main trade-off is platform scope: PikuMail is designed for Windows desktop use, so it is a narrower choice for people who need email access across several operating systems or device types. Local storage also makes backup and device management part of the user's workflow, although backup and restore are included. Choose PikuMail for a free, privacy-focused Windows client with email, calendar, contacts, notes, and encryption; choose a broader platform option if cross-device coverage is central.
