PC Engine for Analogue Pocket is a free, open-source FPGA emulator core for running PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16 software on Analogue Pocket hardware. It loads ROMs from an SD card and is aimed at Analogue Pocket owners who want a focused console core with hardware-specific controls, display options, audio adjustments, and save support. SuperGrafx games are also supported when supplied as .sgx files, extending its coverage beyond standard PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16 software.
Its strongest fit is local play through the Analogue Dock, which supports up to four players. The core also provides six-button controller mode and configurable controller turbo modes, giving users options for games that need additional inputs or repeated actions. Video controls include multiple modes and resolutions, along with extra-sprite and raw-RGB options. Audio settings include master-audio and PCM-audio boost options, so the core offers more configuration than a basic ROM-loading implementation.
The project has a narrow hardware focus rather than serving as a desktop emulator. Per-game memory-card save files are supported, but CD games are not. That makes PC Engine for Analogue Pocket a suitable choice for Analogue Pocket owners who want PC Engine, TurboGrafx-16, and SuperGrafx cartridge-style software with controller, video, audio, and save options. Users looking specifically for CD game support or a desktop platform should choose an alternative emulator instead.
