PC-Doctor Drive Erase review
A bootable erasure tool for service centers that need verified, documented drive sanitization.

PC-Doctor Drive Erase is bootable data-sanitization software for technicians and organizations preparing drives for reuse, resale, or recycling. It supports HDD, SSD, ATA, NVMe, eMMC, and SAS media, with USB boot and a DVD option. Service centers that process connected drives and need documented erasure are a natural fit; teams that require remote wiping should look elsewhere.
Its workflow combines multi-drive erasure with post-wipe verification. The product supports NIST 800-88-aligned sanitization methods, and DoD 5022.22-M methods are listed for some media. It also erases hidden HPA and DCO sectors, and attempts freeze-lock removal and PSID revert on OPAL drives. After erasure, it can generate PDF certificates with a cryptographic fingerprint and write certificate details and a digital signature to the drive’s first sector. These audit-oriented capabilities matter for service centers that need records tied to the media, rather than a simple deletion tool.
The published plans distinguish a standalone Service Center 17 Drive Erase license, with unlimited erasures, a bootable USB key, and lifetime support, from Service Center 17 Key, which adds diagnostics and a free minor-version update. Service Center 17 Kit includes Key features plus a diagnostics DVD and accessories. All three are lifetime licenses. The desktop product is listed for Windows, Linux, and macOS environments, with ticket and documentation support channels. Choose Drive Erase when erasure and its certificates are the priority; consider Key or Kit if diagnostics and included physical accessories are also part of the service workflow. Its bootable model and lack of remote wiping make it less suitable for distributed, remote-only device management.
