PanelDirector review
A strong fit for data-connected retail networks that need centralized screen control.

PanelDirector is NEC’s cloud-based digital signage distribution and management platform. It is designed for offices, retail locations, financial institutions, municipalities, and public spaces, with deployments ranging from small installations to hundreds or thousands of screens. The product suits organizations that need centralized publishing across distributed locations, especially retail networks connecting signage with POS data, cameras, sensors, or existing content systems.
Its strongest area is content and administration control. PanelDirector can create playlists automatically, schedule content, and distribute material by location, hierarchy, and tags. Multiple publishers can receive managed permissions, while supported content includes images, video, PowerPoint, HTML5, and web pages. Smartphone-based operation adds another control path, and optional emergency, weather, news, and transit services extend the types of content a network can deliver. These capabilities make it a practical choice for teams coordinating varied content across many screens rather than managing isolated displays.
The commercial structure is more tailored than a simple self-serve subscription. The Basic service includes hardware, communications, cloud service, and initial setup, while service packages are priced by region and deployment. The Japanese office service starts at ¥24,000 per month per device, excluding tax, and other deployments use open pricing or individual quotations. That approach may suit enterprise buyers seeking a packaged rollout, but it gives smaller teams less direct pricing clarity. PanelDirector is worth considering when centralized controls, advanced user roles, and data-linked signage matter most. Organizations wanting broad platform coverage or straightforward plan comparison should look elsewhere.
