Paddle Inference review
Open-source PaddlePaddle serving with CPU, GPU, TensorRT and ONNX Runtime paths.

Paddle Inference is PaddlePaddle’s open-source deployment runtime for developers running trained deep-learning models in production applications. It targets small teams through enterprises that need to deploy across Linux, Windows or macOS systems, including server environments. The runtime is available under the Apache-2.0 license and provides a free plan, with interfaces for Python, C++, C and Go. Its deployment model is self-hosted, giving engineering teams control over the serving environment and hardware.
Hardware coverage is a central strength. CPU inference can use optional oneDNN acceleration, while GPU execution connects with CUDA and cuDNN. TensorRT support adds FP32, FP16 and INT8 modes for workloads that need hardware-specific optimization. Paddle Inference also integrates with ONNX Runtime, allowing teams to incorporate an ONNX backend alongside Paddle model loading. Prebuilt inference libraries reduce compilation work, while source compilation remains available when a deployment requires custom build choices.
The runtime is particularly suitable when PaddlePaddle models are the center of an application and the team wants direct control over optimization and deployment. PaddleSlim supplies model quantization and compression workflows, extending the runtime beyond basic execution. Teams should plan for their own hosting, updates and operational integration because deployment is self-managed and support is provided through documentation and community channels. Organizations seeking a managed inference endpoint or a broader turnkey serving experience should consider an alternative; Paddle Inference fits developers comfortable assembling the runtime into their own production stack.
Paddle Inference pros and cons
- Where it wins
- CPU, CUDA/cuDNN GPU and TensorRT FP32, FP16 and INT8 inference
- Python, C++, C and Go APIs with prebuilt or source-built libraries
- ONNX Runtime integration plus PaddleSlim quantization workflows
- Where it doesn't
- Deployment is self-hosted rather than a managed service
- Support channels are documentation and community resources
- Primary model loading uses Paddle .pdmodel and .pdiparams files
