Pacioli review
A free, open-source ledger for self-hosted crypto and fiat bookkeeping.

Pacioli is an open-source, local-first accounting platform for organizations managing cryptocurrency and fiat assets. It combines a double-entry chart of accounts with crypto and fiat accounting in one ledger, supporting cost-basis tracking, wallet importing, nonprofit fund accounting, and financial reports. Windows, macOS, Linux, web, and self-hosted deployment are supported. It is aimed at self-hosters, nonprofits, and organizations that want control over their accounting environment rather than a service built around third-party integrations.
Its strongest feature set is the accounting depth for digital assets. Pacioli supports FIFO, LIFO, HIFO, and specific-ID cost-basis methods, alongside read-only wallet connections and multi-chain transaction importing. Profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash-flow reports cover core financial workflows, while CSV and JSON import/export support data movement. Nonprofit fund and donor-restriction accounting adds a specialized option for organizations managing restricted funds. Encrypted local SQLite storage is part of the local-first design.
The trade-off is ecosystem coverage and product maturity. Pacioli does not provide integrations, and exchange imports are not verified, so organizations relying on connected exchange workflows may need another option. The project is in pre-launch, pre-alpha development, and packaged installers are not yet published; managed cloud synchronization is also forthcoming. Choose Pacioli if free, open-source, self-hosted bookkeeping and flexible cost-basis methods matter most. Choose an alternative if you need verified exchange imports, established integrations, or a packaged installation today.
