OpenVR Benchmark review
A focused, free VR benchmark for repeatable Windows hardware comparisons.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
OpenVR Benchmark is a Windows desktop utility for measuring VR hardware performance through SteamVR. It runs a standardized fly-through in a voxel environment, produces a performance score, and compares results with results from the same GPU and VR headset. The benchmark takes about 60 seconds and ignores headset tracking, which supports repeatable comparisons. It is aimed at VR users who want a consistent game-focused performance check rather than a general-purpose testing suite.
The free OpenVR Benchmark plan includes the VR performance benchmark, automatic result submission and comparison, and PNG result export. It also supports formatted clipboard copying, while consistent SteamVR performance settings help keep runs comparable. The optional OpenVR Benchmark Leaderboard Unlock DLC adds the official leaderboard, filters for headset or GPU, and the ability to submit a public leaderboard name. That makes the product suitable for users who value standardized results and online comparisons without paying for the core benchmark.
Its main trade-off is scope. OpenVR Benchmark supports Windows and SteamVR, focuses on a defined VR workload, and does not provide custom workloads. The leaderboard is also separate from the free base product, so users who want public ranking features need the DLC. Choose it for a low-cost, repeatable snapshot of VR performance with same-hardware comparisons, result submission, and image export. Choose an alternative if you need broader platform support, configurable tests, or benchmarking beyond its standardized VR scenario.
