Our verdict on OpenSend

OpenSend is email infrastructure for developers and teams managing transactional email, broadcasts, contacts, templates, automations, inbound messages, and delivery events. It supports web access, an API, and self-hosted deployment. Its Resend-compatible REST API handles single and batch sending, while SDK and integration support covers TypeScript, Python, Go, Ruby, React Email, AWS SES, Postgres, and Cloudflare DNS. Open-source teams that want control over deployment and email data will find a broad feature set in one product.

Pricing scales by monthly sending volume and operational scope. Free includes 500 API and broadcast emails per month, one verified domain, two API keys, the REST API, and HMAC-signed webhooks. Lite costs $10 per month and adds 15,000 emails, three verified domains, five API keys, contacts, segments, broadcasts, and automations. Starter costs $19 per month with 51,000 emails, 10 verified domains, 10 API keys, and email support with a 48-hour response target. Growth costs $99 per month and adds 120,000 emails, 1,000 verified domains, custom Return-Path domains, an audit log, and Google SSO. Scale offers unlimited emails based on SES capacity, dedicated infrastructure, VPC peering, BAA and SOC 2 assistance, and Slack support with a one-hour SLA.

The platform’s strongest distinction is its combination of API sending, campaign features, inbound email routes, event webhooks, and domain controls including DKIM, SPF, and DMARC. Idempotency keys support safer email sends and batch rows. Self-hosting with Docker Compose gives teams a deployment path through their own AWS SES account and Postgres database, but it also adds infrastructure responsibility. OpenSend suits engineering-led teams that want an open-source, adaptable email stack; teams specifically seeking SMTP relay should choose an alternative.
