OpenRecon review
A free, self-hosted reconciler for developers working with payment processor data.

OpenRecon is a local, open-source payment reconciliation engine and Python CLI for payments, finance, and engineering teams. It compares ledger and processor CSV files, performs exact and heuristic transaction matching, detects fee and amount discrepancies, and reports transactions missing from either side. Its self-hosted design keeps processing local rather than uploading data to a SaaS service, making it a focused option for developers who want a free processor reconciler they can run from their own environment.
The published Free plan is the complete offering: it includes the open-source MIT license, a local CLI, a Python library, and no account requirement. There is no paid tier. The product also uses Decimal for monetary calculations, which supports precise handling of monetary values, and its dependency-free design keeps the implementation focused on reconciliation. Reports can be exported as JSON or CSV exceptions, while the Python library API gives engineering teams a programmatic interface for integrating reconciliation into internal workflows.
OpenRecon fits teams whose priority is processor-file matching and automated discrepancy detection. Its presets cover Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, Razorpay, Braintree, and Square, and its CI-friendly non-zero exit status can flag discrepancies in scheduled workflows. The tradeoff is process depth: it does not provide verified exception workflows, approvals, certification workflows, broader accounting integrations, or maturity information. Teams needing formal review and approval controls should choose a product designed around those workflows instead; teams comfortable owning a local CLI and Python-based process will find OpenRecon’s narrow focus useful.
