OpenMES is a web-based, open-source manufacturing execution system for small, mid-sized, and larger manufacturers. It brings together work-order lifecycle tracking, visual scheduling, shop-floor execution, quality checks, lot and serial traceability, reporting, inventory, and machine connectivity. The product is a fit for manufacturers seeking a broad MES scope with self-hosted deployment and an open-source licensing model, particularly when production data needs to connect with existing ERP, SCADA, PLC, or IoT environments.

Its ecosystem fit is a central strength. OpenMES supports REST APIs and industrial protocols including MQTT, Modbus, and OPC UA, with integrations spanning ERP systems, SCADA, PLCs, IoT sensors, Wapro Mag, and Subiekt NEXO PRO. Shop-floor screens cover batch execution, counts, downtime, and issues, while real-time monitoring and OEE reporting provide operational visibility. Warehouse, inventory, barcode, and RFID management extend the system beyond production scheduling into material handling and traceability.

The platform also offers meaningful breadth for an open-source MES: quality control includes defect tracking, inspections, and SPC; traceability covers lots, batches, and serial numbers; and ERP data exchange links factory activity with business systems. Community users can self-host under the AGPL-3.0 license. An enterprise offering adds advanced modules, implementation services, dedicated support, and cloud or on-premise deployment options, including hybrid arrangements. OpenMES suits teams that value control, industrial connectivity, and a wide operational feature set. Organizations wanting a narrowly focused production tool, or a managed online experience immediately, should consider alternatives.
