OpenCIAM review
A flexible open-source identity platform for teams building passwordless login flows.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
OpenCIAM is an open-source customer identity and access management platform for developers and teams adding authentication to applications. It supports passwordless login through FIDO2/WebAuthn passkeys, magic links, email and SMS OTP, and push approval, while also covering multifactor authentication, single sign-on, social login, enterprise identity, consent management, and user provisioning. Web, API, and self-hosted deployments make it suitable for teams that want control over how identity flows are delivered.
The pricing structure gives teams two accessible entry points. Community is a self-hosted plan priced at zero and includes the full open-source platform, unlimited monthly active users, all authentication methods and passkeys, and community support. Cloud is free for up to 7,500 monthly active users and adds managed hosting, a 99.99% SLA, global edge delivery, automatic upgrades and backups, plus email and chat support. Beyond that threshold, the Cloud plan becomes usage-based. Enterprise adds dedicated or air-gapped deployment, data residency, BYO-KMS, SAML and SCIM, and 24/7 support. This split makes OpenCIAM a practical fit for teams comfortable operating software themselves or starting with managed hosting.
Its standards-based ecosystem is broad for an open-source identity product. OAuth 2.1, OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, FIDO2/WebAuthn, and SCIM support connect application authentication with enterprise SSO and directory synchronization. Google, Apple, Microsoft, and GitHub are listed identity integrations, while REST and GraphQL APIs with SDKs support custom application work. The visual flow builder covers login, signup, and recovery journeys, and consent management includes data export or erasure. Teams needing a narrower, simpler login tool may find this breadth unnecessary; OpenCIAM is better suited to developers who need multiple identity flows and deployment choices.
