Our verdict on OOOSplat

OOOSplat is an open-source desktop application for turning orbit videos or image sequences into 3D Gaussian Splatting projects. It is aimed at solo creators and small teams that want local processing rather than a cloud reconstruction service. One-click generation accepts MP4 or MOV video and JPG, JPEG or PNG image sequences, then automates image preparation, COLMAP camera reconstruction, Brush training, PLY publishing, preview and export. Processing runs on the user’s computer across Windows, Apple Silicon macOS and Ubuntu Linux Alpha.

The free, open-source model keeps the software accessible without a paid tier structure. Its platform coverage suits desktop workflows, while automatic CPU/CUDA selection handles COLMAP reconstruction. Fast, Balanced and Detailed presets provide clear processing choices, and the multi-task queue supports cancellation, resume and reshoot workflows. Transparent MOV and PNG handling with COLMAP masks also supports capture workflows that require transparency. There is no mobile capture mode, so users who need phone-based acquisition or browser-first processing should look elsewhere.

OOOSplat’s standout area is the combination of interactive editing and varied local outputs. The WebGPU/WebGL2 preview supports cropping, point deletion, transforms and undo/redo before publishing original or edited PLY files. Users can also create portrait or landscape MP4 previews and standalone offline HTML viewers, making the results suitable for video, web and file-based delivery.
