Okta Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication is a workforce authentication solution for organizations that need more control than a basic second-factor prompt. It evaluates signals such as device health, location, network, user behavior, and IP address to determine when additional verification is required. The product supports adaptive access, passwordless authentication, device trust, step-up authentication, and phishing-resistant methods including Okta FastPass, FIDO2 WebAuthn, and smart cards. It is suited to enterprise teams protecting workforce applications across web, Linux, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and API environments.

Pricing is organized into three plans. Essentials costs $17 per user per month with annual billing and includes Adaptive MFA, Privileged Access, Lifecycle Management, Access Governance, and 50 Workflows. Professional adds Device Access, Identity Security Posture Management, Identity Threat Protection, and Sandbox. Enterprise adds API Access Management, Access Gateway, Identity Security Posture Management, and Machine-to-Machine Tokens. A 30-day free trial is available, while the published pricing model is paid and does not include a free plan. Adaptive MFA is included in Essentials and is also listed as a Starter add-on without a separate displayed price.

Its main strength is policy depth: administrators can apply contextual rules based on device, network, location, behavior, and IP address, evaluate device posture, block suspicious IP addresses with ThreatInsight, and require step-up verification for sensitive applications. Integration methods include OIDC, SAML, WS-Federation, SWA, RADIUS, Okta APIs, and the Okta Sign-In Widget. Choose Okta when phishing resistance, adaptive controls, device evaluation, and platform coverage justify an annual per-user investment. A simpler MFA requirement may suit teams that do not need these policy and access-management capabilities.
