Our verdict on NYT Cooking
NYT Cooking is a recipe service for home cooks who want to find, save and follow recipes from The New York Times. Its searchable collection contains more than 20,000 recipes, with filters for diet, cuisine and meal type. People can save recipes to a digital Recipe Box, sort them into folders, and search or filter saved recipes. The service is available on the web and in iOS and Android apps, with cloud and mobile access.
The cooking experience combines recipe instructions with Cook Mode and step-by-step videos and demonstrations. Subscribers can turn recipe ingredients into a grocery list, share lists from the web or app, and order grocery delivery through Instacart. These features make the service useful for cooks who want recipe discovery, guided preparation and ingredient organization in one place. Its focus is on New York Times recipes rather than importing recipes from elsewhere, so cooks who want a consolidated collection from many sources may prefer a recipe app with import support.
The app download is free, but access is paid: according to the Help Center, Recipe Box features are limited without a Cooking or All Access subscription, and Grocery Lists are subscriber-only. The published description identifies Cooking and All Access subscriptions but does not provide plan prices here. That access model makes NYT Cooking a better fit for people who specifically value its recipe library and guided cooking than for those seeking a free-first app. Choose it for NYT recipes, Cook Mode and grocery-list workflows; look elsewhere if free access or recipe importing is essential.
