NovaBilling review
A capable open-source billing core for developers who want low-cost self-hosting.

NovaBilling is an open-source billing platform for SaaS businesses and teams managing subscriptions across payment providers. It combines recurring billing, usage-based metering, prepaid customer wallets, invoice generation, hosted checkout, analytics, webhooks, and automated dunning. Its web, API, and self-hosted deployment options make it particularly relevant to developers who want control over billing infrastructure without starting with a paid plan.
Pricing is straightforward across the published plans. Community is free and supports self-hosting the full platform, all features, unlimited tenants and customers, all six payment providers, usage-based billing, wallets, and community support on GitHub. Cloud is listed at $49 per month and adds managed infrastructure, automatic updates and backups, priority email support, a 99.9% uptime SLA, and a custom dashboard domain; the plan is marked as coming soon. Enterprise adds a dedicated database cluster, custom SLA and uptime guarantee, SSO / SAML integration, on-premise deployment support, and a dedicated account manager, with pricing not shown.
The billing and dunning feature set is broad for teams building their own workflows. Developers can configure automated failed-payment retry schedules, receive signature-verified webhooks with automatic retries, and connect Stripe, Paystack, Flutterwave, DPO Group, PayU, or PesaPal. TypeScript and Python SDKs are available, while multi-tenant isolation and encrypted payment credentials support a more structured deployment model. NovaBilling is a strong fit for technical teams that value open-source control, flexible billing models, and self-hosting. Teams seeking an immediately available managed service or broader notification coverage should consider alternatives.
