Nova-Vox review
A Windows-focused toolkit for building expressive synthesized vocals and custom voicebanks.

Nova-Vox is an open-source vocal synthesizer for creating synthesized singing vocals and custom voicebanks on Windows. It combines traditional synthesis with AI-based enhancement and includes downloadable voices with the installer. The product is aimed at producers, vocal-synthesis enthusiasts, and developers who want to shape voices, expressions, pitches, AI models, and related settings rather than rely only on fixed presets. Commercial use is allowed, and the software is free and open source.
Its strongest area is voice and vocal-system customization. A universal phoneme and dictionary system provides a shared foundation for entering and shaping lyrics, while the UTAU voicebank import tool can help bring existing voicebank material into the workflow. The voicebank creation development kit supports users developing their own libraries, and the node editor allows custom effect pipelines. Together, these features give Nova-Vox a broader creation toolkit than a narrowly focused singing interface, with particular value for users who want to work on both vocal output and the underlying voicebank.
The trade-off is that Nova-Vox is oriented toward development and customization rather than a highly guided, ready-made experience. Comprehensive documentation is still a work in progress, so new users may need to spend time understanding the synthesis, voicebank, phoneme, and node-based workflows. Windows users building custom voicebanks should find the feature set closely aligned with that goal. Users who need support for other operating systems or prefer a simpler singing workflow with less setup should choose a different tool. The current Nova-Vox 1.0 is available now, while the substantially revised Mirai version remains in development without a planned release date.
