NotebookLM is Google’s AI research and study assistant for students, educators, professionals, researchers, and others working with substantial information. Users can import documents, PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio, and copied text, then ask questions grounded in those sources. Answers include citations, while automatic summaries and suggested questions help organize unfamiliar material. NotebookLM also supports web source discovery and research, reports, briefing documents, study guides, flashcards, quizzes, Mind Maps, infographics, Audio Overviews with interactive AI hosts, Video Overviews, and notebook sharing and collaboration. It is available on the web, iOS, and Android.

The Standard plan is free with a Gmail account and includes up to 100 notebooks per user and up to 50 sources per notebook. Google AI Plus costs $9.99 per month and adds more access to Gemini Notebook, 400 GB of storage, up to 200 notebooks per user, and up to 100 sources per notebook. Google AI Pro costs $19.99 per month and provides expanded access to Gemini Notebook, 5 TB of storage, up to 500 notebooks per user, and up to 300 sources per notebook. The paid tiers primarily increase access, storage, and notebook and source limits.

NotebookLM is less suitable for buyers who need broad third-party integrations or image generation. Its listed integrations are Google Drive and Google Gemini, so teams seeking a wider connected software ecosystem may need an alternative. The free Standard plan is useful for source-grounded work, but users with larger collections will need a paid tier for higher notebook and source limits. Choose NotebookLM when cited answers, source imports, research summaries, and study materials are central; consider another AI chatbot when general-purpose integrations or image creation matter more.
