Our verdict on Nicos Weg
Nicos Weg is Deutsche Welle’s free German-learning course for beginners and intermediate learners. It follows Nico’s life in Germany through a video series and supports the lessons with interactive exercises, audio content, vocabulary explanations, grammar overviews, and regional studies. The course covers levels A1 to B1 and includes practical topics such as everyday life, work, and employment. Learners can access it on the web, iOS, and Android, making it suitable for people seeking a structured German course across desktop and mobile devices.
The course’s strongest feature is its breadth within German learning. More than 200 video episodes provide a substantial learning path, while the placement test helps learners choose a starting level. Personalized login and progress tracking give the course continuity, and downloadable videos and PDF learning materials support offline study. This combination suits learners who want more than isolated vocabulary practice or short exercises, particularly those building German for daily situations or employment-related contexts.
Nicos Weg is a clear choice for learners who want a full German course without a subscription price. Its focus is also its main boundary: the core course is German-focused, so it is not the right fit for someone seeking a broad selection of target languages in one course. Learners who prefer video-led instruction, structured progression, grammar and vocabulary support, and mobile access should find the format well aligned with those needs. Those looking for a multi-language subscription service or a course outside German should consider another app instead.
