Our verdict on NextJudge

NextJudge is an open-source competitive programming platform for organizations that want to deploy programming contests on their own infrastructure. Its primary use is contests, with support for private classrooms, clubs, hiring events, and internal competitions. Participants can practice from a searchable, sortable problem catalog, edit code in a browser-based Monaco editor, submit solutions, and receive judging feedback. Administrators can create or bulk-import problems, configure contests, and manage participants. The platform supports C++, C, Python, PyPy, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, Rust, Ruby, Lua, Kotlin, and Haskell, along with custom challenges.

Its strongest fit is an organization that needs control over participant data, problems, execution environments, and deployment. Contest features cover registration, team participation, clarifications, standings, real-time leaderboards, and submission feedback, while sandboxed compilation and judging through nsjail provide a defined execution boundary. The REST API and command-line interface also support automation around problem management and contest operations. These capabilities make NextJudge more suitable for recurring private contests than for a lightweight, hosted practice tool.

The trade-off is operational ownership. Because NextJudge is self-hosted, the deploying organization is responsible for its own infrastructure and the surrounding administration. The official site currently invites users to join a waitlist, and the product is positioned around contest mechanics rather than published solution explanations. Choose NextJudge if self-hosting, customization, and contest administration are central requirements. Teams seeking a ready-to-access service or explanation-rich learning experience should consider an alternative focused on those needs.
