NewsOnAir review

NewsOnAir brings All India Radio listening and Prasar Bharati news content into a free mobile app for people who want Indian radio, news and television in one place. It is available on iOS and Android, and its mix of domestic and World Service stations includes channels covering major regional languages of India. The focus is clear: listeners seeking AIR services and related Doordarshan content will find a broader mix than radio alone, while people looking for a general-purpose international radio app may find the regional remit limiting.

Radio is the app’s central feature, with live streaming of more than 230 AIR channels and geo-mapped channel search. The surrounding content includes news in text, audio and video, multilingual audio news bulletins, podcasts and recorded AIR programmes, plus live Doordarshan TV channels and current-affairs videos. A sleep timer supports listening sessions, and Apple CarPlay compatibility is useful for listeners who want access through a compatible car system. This breadth makes NewsOnAir more than a station directory, though its programming remains tied to AIR and Doordarshan rather than a wide range of unrelated broadcasters.

The app is free, with no paid tier to weigh against its features. Its mobile-only availability means it is suited to listeners who primarily use a phone or tablet, not those seeking a desktop or web listening option. Prasar Bharati lists email as a support channel. Choose NewsOnAir for free access to AIR radio alongside Indian news, podcasts and Doordarshan TV; consider another service if you need a broader international station mix or access beyond mobile platforms.
