Our verdict on Navidisc

Navidisc is a GPL-licensed, open-source tool for Linux users who want to turn playlists from Navidrome or other Subsonic-compatible servers into physical CDs. It suits solo users and small teams running self-hosted music services, especially when playlist-based disc creation matters more than broad desktop compatibility. The tool stages audio files, plans disc capacity, guides disc insertion and supports both data CD and audio CD projects.

Its strongest fit is the connection between a Subsonic API music library and a disc-burning workflow. Navidisc resolves playlists, automatically splits them across multiple discs and can convert FLAC or WAV files to MP3 with selectable quality through ffmpeg. Users can work interactively from the command line, run headless operations, or use a local web interface to browse playlists, plan discs and monitor burn progress. Media-type detection, configurable burn-speed presets, configurable ejection and post-burn verification add control around the physical-writing process.

The trade-off is a focused Linux and self-hosted scope. The project requires Linux optical-drive support and Python 3.11 or later, so it is not aimed at users seeking a cross-platform desktop application. Its published category capabilities also exclude CD-Text, gapless burning, crossfade controls and label design. Choose Navidisc when Navidrome integration, automated multi-disc splitting and command-line control are central requirements. Consider another tool if you need polished metadata on discs, gapless album playback, crossfades, label creation or support for operating systems beyond Linux.
