Our verdict on n+1
Founded in 2004, n+1 is a literary magazine covering literature, culture, and politics. It publishes print issues three times a year and online-only work during the week. Readers can subscribe for digital access or choose a plan that also delivers print issues; the magazine also publishes books and hosts events. It is a fit for readers looking for independent literary coverage and a magazine archive, rather than a general news bundle.
Digital subscriptions provide access to the complete archive, including back issues, and let subscribers read new issues before they are available in print. Basic Digital costs $36 per year or $4.50 per month. Print + Digital costs $45 per year or $5 per month, adding home delivery of print issues and free admission to parties and events. The Member tier costs $150 per year or $13 per month and includes the Print + Digital benefits, a tote bag, discounts on n+1 books, and an invitation to an annual member appreciation cocktail party. There is no free plan.
The web subscription is complemented by an iOS reader app for access to the magazine back catalog. Gift subscriptions are available in digital-only and print-and-digital formats; gift digital editions can be downloaded as PDF, EPUB, or MOBI files. These options make n+1 more suitable for readers who value its specific literary and cultural focus, archive, and print edition than for people seeking broad publication bundles or a free way to read. Readers who want digital access alone can choose Basic Digital, while those who want print delivery can move to Print + Digital without the added Member benefits.
