myOrganizer-CURATOR review
A focused, free open-source curator for preservation-led ROM collection preparation on Windows.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
myOrganizer-CURATOR is a Windows PowerShell application for analyzing, validating, reconstructing, and organizing emulation collections with DAT-based authority data. It is aimed at preservation-focused ROM preparation, particularly for users who need deterministic file matching, duplicate detection, renaming, hash verification, and a clear separation between recognized, unknown, and incomplete content. The software is free and open source under the GNU General Public License, with LaunchBox and MAME listed as integrations.
Its strongest area is the depth of its collection-preparation workflow. CURATOR matches user-provided files against preservation metadata, handles filenames and collisions, and supports recovery and resumable workflows. Reporting and audit trails add a record of processing activity, while ZIP archive creation and publication support structured distribution of prepared collections. The output can be organized for LaunchBox, making it relevant to users who want their preservation work and front-end library structure to align. Experimental MAME software-list processing extends the scope, but that function is not presented as a mature part of the product.
The main trade-off is focus. CURATOR is specialized for DAT-driven ROM curation rather than a broad, general-purpose media management workflow, and its Windows-only delivery limits platform choice. The current release is identified as v2.0.0-beta.5, so users should be comfortable adopting beta software. Choose it when authoritative matching, unknown and incomplete separation, auditability, archive publication, and LaunchBox organization matter more than cross-platform access. Choose an alternative if you need a non-Windows solution or prefer software without beta-status workflows.
