Muesli is a real-time collaborative Markdown editor for teams and AI agents. It keeps plain .md files central while allowing people and agents to edit together with live cursors, presence, comments, tracked suggestions, version snapshots, and an inline preview with a source toggle. The product supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, and self-hosted deployment. Teams working with Markdown files across shared storage, Git repositories, or connected drives are the clearest fit, especially when collaboration matters as much as local file control.
Its strongest area is collaborative document depth. Muesli combines real-time multiplayer editing with comments, suggestions, version history, role-scoped guest links, and document features including KaTeX math, Mermaid diagrams, tables, callouts, frontmatter, wikilinks, and backlinks. Documents can remain in local folders, AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, MinIO, GitHub, Gitea, Forgejo, Google Drive, or SharePoint. That combination gives teams several ways to fit Markdown into existing storage and development workflows rather than moving everything into a separate proprietary format.
The product is free and open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. The hosted service is currently free, while self-hosting is available through Docker. AI-agent collaboration works through MCP, with support for MCP clients, making Muesli relevant to teams that want agents participating in shared Markdown work. It is less suitable for organizations that require a different licensing model, avoid Docker-based deployment, or do not have an MCP-compatible workflow for AI collaboration.
