Our verdict on MoviePrepper
MoviePrepper brings script breakdown, scheduling, production preparation, and shoot-day management into one web-based workspace. It is aimed at filmmakers, producers, and production teams working on vertical dramas, commercials, music videos, short films, indie films, documentaries, features, and episodic productions. Its workflow connects scene information with cast and crew assignments, locations, call sheets, production documents, budgets, reports, and actuals, making it a fit for teams that want production planning in one focused tool.
Pricing is structured per production rather than per user or month. The Prep tier is a free one-time production tier for learning the workflow, student projects, test shoots, and small productions. Short Form costs $39 one time per production and targets quick shoots with small crews. Indie costs $149 one time per production for larger crews and longer schedules, including indie films, documentaries, TV series, and streaming productions. Studio costs $499 one time per production for large-scale productions such as studio films, TV seasons, extended shoots, and feature documentaries. This fixed model is straightforward for occasional projects, while the higher tiers align with broader production scopes.
The standout strength is the breadth of the production workflow: breakdowns can cover cast, sets, props, wardrobe, vehicles, background, and department elements; scheduling supports stripboard scene ordering and a production calendar; and contacts, availability, day-out-of-days tracking, locations, call sheets, sides, budgets, reports, and actuals extend beyond basic scheduling. PDF script import is supported. The trade-off is a web-only platform and a stated 12-production-day limit, which may constrain longer planning needs. Choose MoviePrepper for lean productions seeking clear one-time pricing and connected scheduling tools; consider an alternative if you need broader platform access or planning beyond 12 production days.
