Mootboard review
A capable free effects rack for live voice chat, but not an AI voice converter.

Mootboard is an open-source desktop application for changing microphone audio in real time and triggering soundboard clips. It is aimed at people who want live voice effects for Discord, Zoom, or game chat, using a virtual audio device as the processed microphone output. The free application supports Windows 10/11 on x64 systems and macOS 12 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Its controls include pitch shift, reverb, EQ, distortion, chorus, flanger, noise gate, and compression.
Its strongest fit is as a configurable effects rack rather than a conventional AI voice changer. Users can reorder effects, adjust parameters within the chain, save and load presets, and process audio with low latency. The soundboard imports WAV, MP3, FLAC, and OGG clips, while global hotkeys support quick triggering during calls or game chat. Discord and Zoom are named integrations, and the virtual audio device approach makes the processed signal available as a microphone input.
Mootboard should suit open-source users who prioritize real-time control, desktop voice effects, and a free workflow. It is less suitable for buyers seeking AI-generated voices, recorded voice conversion, or exported audio files. Linux users will also need to wait for planned support, as the current platform coverage is Windows and macOS. The public repository is active, while the project currently has no published GitHub releases, so users looking for a packaged release channel may prefer a product with that distribution model.
