Monologue review
A focused visual dialogue tool for Godot projects and narrative prototypes.

Monologue is an open-source dialogue editor for solo developers and small teams creating narrative game content. Its node-graph interface supports branching and non-linear conversations, making it suited to visual novels, RPG and adventure dialogue, interactive fiction, and narrative prototyping. Projects can include characters, backgrounds, audio, voicelines, translations and music, while custom node properties and tasks provide additional authoring flexibility.
Godot is the clearest engine fit. Monologue supports Godot Engine workflows, while its JSON-based project export can also be read by another game engine or framework with an appropriate interpreter. That gives teams a path to keep authoring separate from runtime implementation, although the exported project still depends on a suitable interpreter. In-editor dialogue playback and debugging help creators review conversation flow within the authoring environment.
The product’s focus is deliberately narrow: dialogue and related narrative assets rather than full quest planning. It also does not include a user-facing content version-history feature, so teams needing dedicated quest design or built-in revision management should look for a broader narrative production tool. Windows and Linux standalone builds make it a desktop-oriented option, with community support as the listed support channel. Choose Monologue if visual conversation design, localization support and Godot compatibility are central requirements; choose an alternative if your workflow depends on quest systems, broader integrations or collaborative content history.
