miniMDM review
A free, developer-oriented MDM foundation with strong governance and no verified deduplication.

miniMDM is a lightweight, self-hosted master data management application for organizations managing customers, products, locations, and custom data objects. It is particularly suited to developers who want a free, MIT-licensed system that can run on infrastructure they control. YAML or JSON schema configuration, a responsive web interface, workflow approval, and an auto-generated REST API provide a practical foundation for governed record management.
Deployment and integration are central to the product. miniMDM can run on-premises with Docker or directly on user-managed infrastructure, using PostgreSQL. Its API access, generated OpenAPI documentation, inbound webhooks, cross-object references, and parent-child hierarchies support connection with upstream systems and related business objects. CSV, TSV, and JSON bulk import and export also provide a direct path for loading and exchanging records. The trade-off is operational ownership: teams are responsible for the deployment environment and database infrastructure.
The governance feature set is broad for a free, open-source product. Record lifecycle states cover draft, active, and retired records, while version history supports diff and revert capabilities. Searchable audit logs, role-based and schema-level access control, validation rules, and data-quality status add control over changes and record quality. However, deduplication is not a documented capability, which limits its fit for organizations that need duplicate detection as a core MDM function. Choose miniMDM for customizable, developer-led record governance and self-hosting; consider an alternative when deduplication is essential or a hosted service is preferred.
