MiniMax API review
A broad multimodal API suite for developers who want low-cost experimentation.

MiniMax API is a hosted cloud platform for developers and enterprises building language, media and agent applications. Its lineup includes MiniMax M3 and M2.7 language models, multimodal video generation, text-to-speech, voice cloning, voice design, text-to-image and image-to-image generation, music generation, file management, server-side web search and official MCP servers. OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible API access makes it suited to teams prototyping across several AI modalities rather than adopting a single-purpose endpoint.
Pricing is split across monthly subscriptions, usage credits and audio plans. Plus costs $22 per month for personal projects and prototyping; Max is $55 per month for daily coding with agents and multimodal work; Ultra is $132 per month for heavy agent workflows and extended sessions. All three cover the full MiniMax lineup, including M3, M2.7, image and speech. One-time credit packages cost $5 for 5,000 credits, $25 for 25,000 credits or $100 for 100,000 credits, with credits valid 365 days. Audio Starter costs $5 per month for 100,000 audio points, 10 voice slots and RPM 10, while Audio Standard costs $30 for 300,000 points, 100 voice slots and RPM 50.
The platform fits existing development stacks through the OpenAI SDK, Anthropic SDK, Python MCP and JavaScript MCP, while web and API access support browser-based and programmatic workflows. Its million-token maximum context window and asynchronous video tasks are useful for extended sessions and media pipelines. The breadth also requires careful product selection: new users cannot access music APIs from August 20, 2026, and there is no free plan for trialing the service. Choose MiniMax API when multimodal coverage and compatibility matter; consider a narrower alternative if you need a free starting tier, music access for new accounts or support beyond community and documentation channels.
